half the brain drifts
the other keeps hour
how dolphins sleep -
one eye shut, the other looks afar
i know this rhythm
of sleeping in halves
one door shut
the other stays ajar
on ceasefire nights,
we hold our breath
as the little ones sleep
still holding their scars
Such tenderness in this, Deepti, despite the angst. I find your dolphin references fascinating.
ReplyDeleteI saw dolphins on my recent trip to Kochi and have been obsessed since :)
DeleteThe last 4 lines are heart wrenching and yet, so tender.
ReplyDeleteThis war is so crushing Geethanjali, i stay up thinking of the kids in refugee camps. One half of me curses, the other half prays.
