I look at the floor
And become overly interested in an empty sheet
I can feel it burning a hole into the back of my neck.
I decide not to look
I click my heel nervously
And scribble some fanciful nonsense.
I decide not to meet their eyes but
They bore into me like gimlets
My temples throb and my veins pop
Cursing peripheral vision
I grit my teeth and persevere
My neck begins to ache and I give up
Why go through pain when
It can be solved by the flick of an eyeball
Our eyes meet for a brief second
And we look away.
