Station to station:
The soft chewing of your soles—
Shuffle stop turn shuffle stop turn shuffle—
Penitence for our souls.
Stop turn shuffle stop turn shuffle stop—
The mosquitoes drawn by the sweet smell of hot
Streaming bodies wandering this earth:
This moving tableau's all we've got.
Taking turns at speaking words—
Turn shuffle stop turn shuffle stop turn—
Now sit and shift your weight around.
Hush now, listen, never learn.
Aching joints and creaking limbs
Kneel and kiss and muffle
Coughs and taste the bitter juice—
Shuffle, stop, turn and shuffle.
Such a sensory delight, this poem. I became part of the journey.
