I want to get on the clean-girl trend.
Our skin care is clean, our make-up
is clean and now we want our food
to be clean, too. Our pre-occupation
with scrubbing our lives spotless
comes from faith and myth in which
women come from sin, commit sin,
enable sin, revel in sin, are punished
for sin (of men, not ours alone). We
want to look dewy, avoid cancerous
compounds, not ingest chemicals
to keep our bodies healthy even if
our souls may be eternally damned.
