Come evening
and the city unravels with a sigh.
The streets quiet
and the pavements fill with
families and cyclists
and people walking slowly
with nowhere to be but here.
At the restaurant on the corner
a group of men drink together
their laughter carries over the trees
and down to the water.
This is a good time
a time for everyone.
No need now
for the stiff uniform of day.
Come, sit in the open night
watch the city lights in the river
the smell of water in the air.
