Decades after you learned about it in middle school physics,
one celestial sphere slides between two others and moves you
like little else can. Not physically. You aren't among the
throngs with special glasses watching the spectacle. You stay
indoors, working your day away, awaiting, like a child does
her birthday evening, the moment. When the light dims and the birds
go quiet as if spring had flashed back to winter and afternoon
to the night before, you wonder at this miracle of a romance, this
soft, patient love of a silver-feather partner for her gilded beloved.
This magnificent waiting over days, weeks, months, years
that glides in ever so gently. With a peck at first, then a sparkling
diamond ring it had saved just for this moment, and then, merging.
Unequivocally. The music of this astonishing tryst, its shadowy
pianissimo, play on in your head. Like a steadfast piano.
Beautiful description! And what a lovely word - pianissimo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Charu. I felt deeply moved by the eclipse this time.
