red flesh. This is how
resistance slips into
the earth's warming belly.
The big fruit bursts.
Children giggle. Fat
slices splash the mouth
red. Uppity establishments
distort history and
call the people, shining,
emancipated, "languorous."
Deep skin tones enjoying
the fruit of their own
labour. Hard to digest
when they could be
slogging for you to
enjoy the fruit off
their sweat. You "bought"
them for eternity, after
all. Downstream Jordan
River. Muddy. Murky.
Green. The black pips,
green skin, white rind,
blood flesh return to
mock memory erasers.
The nation, its flag might
be inaccessible. It's
stories? Still watermelon
fresh. Lesion ripe.
