cherry blossoms

To make a habit of joy

is a dangerous thing.

The first year I saw the cherry blossoms

it was a miracle.

The second year

a gift.

This year I will not see them

and I cannot help but feel

as though some dear possession

has been robbed of me

not realising

that it was mine

only to hold

not to keep.

  3. "only to hold / not to keep"

There's such sadness in those lines, but also a quiet acceptance. Thank you for this poem.
